About Alexandria Marcus, HLC, EPC: 

Alexandria works with individuals who are tired of feeling stuck in emotional eating patterns and want to make peace with food and their body, while feeling lighter and experiencing more pleasure on a daily basis.  

She owns her own company called HEARTfood that includes a private practice in San Francisco coaching clients one-on-one (in person, over Skype and on the phone), and she leads popular group programs and on-going classes throughout the Bay Area.  She’s a Certified Eating Psychology Coach focused on Mind-Body Nutrition and a CHEK Certified Holistic Lifestyle and Nutrition Coach Level 2.  Alexandria studied with New York Times best-selling author Geneen Roth and appeared on The Oprah Show.

This six-week class will present a soulful, new approach to weight loss that challenges the dominant health paradigm.  You will dive into issues around your weight, food and body image in a loving supportive community and take away tangible tools that you can incorporate into your life.  We all know by now that diets don’t work, but what’s the alternative?  This class will provide a loving new pathway to understand your relationship to food, your weight and your body. 

This class will include my customized guided eating exercises called Embodied Eating where we will eat together each class and work with the food directly in front of us during guided eating exercises.  There will be partner exercises, meditation and visualization practices, buddy support, homework assignments to deepend the practices and “text-pirations” (weekly texts to inspire you on your journey).

Course Topics and Themes

You will learn and practice:
  
  • Concepts around Mind-Body nutrition to course correct lifelong “dis-embodied” weight loss practices (distrusting the body in favor of information in our heads) to move toward empowerment and healing around your weight, body image and food.   

  • An alternative to following strict diets through a non-diet paradigm that teaches intuitive eating and self-care that has been proven effective.

  • Tools to help you put on your detective hat to decode and discern true “stomach” hunger from “symbolic” hunger, habits and cravings (desire for food when the body is not physically hungry).   


  • Body-sensing, inquiry and Geneen Roth’s Eating Guidelines to teach you to welcome what is already here rather than get rid of or instantly change your relationship with food.   

  • A powerful tool to work with the primary voices that keep us stuck in the repetitive patterns around food. We are all a collection of different voices (different aspects of ourselves) and each time you sit down to a plate of food a different part might be showing up: the rebel, the celebrator, the critic and the good girl that tell you “you are not enough” and “there’s something wrong with you.” Until you are able to become aware of these voices and unravel some of your toxic beliefs about food and your body lasting change probably isn’t possible.  You can’t lose the weight without lose the beliefs that created the weight.    

  •  How to break free from the belief that you are a “self-improvement” project and constantly needing to be “fixed.”  That deep belief in brokenness locks in pain, suffering and ultimately your weight.   

  • You could eat the healthiest food in the world but if you are eating under stress you literally decrease the nutritional value.  Stress promotes symptoms, disease and unwanted habits!  Learn how relaxing around food helps us relax into our life.  When we eat poor quality nutrient deficient food, our brain registers that it didn’t what it wanted, so it asks for more.  Start finding a rhythm and learn how to pay attention to the foods that feel good in your body.    

  • To begin to honor and trust your body wisdom and move into greater nourishment in your life.  In order for any lasting weight loss to happen, we must practice being in our body! Learn how to move away from punishing exercise and into joyful and loving movement.  We will discuss how something you probably do every single day that you think helps could be sabotaging your weight loss: stepping on that scale.  

  • When you’re turned on by food, you turn on your metabolism.  Learn how pleasure makes your meals nutritionally complete and makes life more satisfying! If you deny yourself the pleasure in food through a low-calorie diet or if you restrict yourself to a fun-free diet, the body responds chemically demanding pleasure and satisfactions.  Why would we eat any other way?
